On sabbatical this year, Valerie leads the team that collaborates on eCampusOntario’s Ontario Extend project, is advising the University of Central Asia’s faculty in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan and Khorog, Tajikstan on contextualizing and integrating their curriculum and is developing a new course: Global Citizen-Digital Communities, which she will teach in the Winter. Valerie has received a number of Awards for her work and is a member of the Council of 3M National Teaching and Learning Fellows in Higher Education. Valerie was the Director of Teaching and Learning at Seneca and has taught courses at the certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, degree and graduate levels, in traditional, blended and fully online formats. She was one of the moderators of #ETMOOC, a massive open online conversation about educational technology and media. She has a number of publications including a Technology @Issue paper that examined the “Pitfalls and Potential of Technology Enhanced Instruction” that she co-authored for HEQCO. She is a passionate advocate for the thoughtful use of open-education resources and the technology tools to enable and enhance learning and is intent on changing the focus of the dialogue about digital literacies for students and faculty.
